Description

It remains very difficult to discuss violence against women in Arab societies, what made me want to create this piece were Zeina Kanjo, Ahkam Derbas and Widad Hassoun; these three women met the same fate within one week in 2021, as they were all killed at the hands of a male relative. Crimes against women in Lebanon have long been downplayed and referred to as “Honour” crimes and personal conflicts and that needs to stop.

Colorful, nostalgic and sometimes abstract is how I would describe my art. I was born and raised in Beirut in the 90s, getting immersed in art and colors throughout my childhood became an escape for me, a way to exteriorize my thoughts and emotions.
